Caring for a cashmere coat
A few considered steps
Air your coat, support it on a suitable hanger and arrange cleaning when needed. Its care label is the starting point for any treatment of the finished garment.
After wearing
Allow your coat to air in a well-ventilated place. Use a sturdy, shaped hanger that supports the shoulders. A breathable garment bag is suitable for storage; avoid a sealed plastic cover.
Clean the garment as a whole
Holland & Sherry recommends professional dry cleaning for its cloths, with no washing or bleaching. The completed coat also includes lining, internal construction and trims. Take it to a specialist cleaner with its care label. H&S care information.
Hand-washing instructions for a cashmere sweater do not apply to this coat. Unless washing is expressly permitted for the finished garment, neither hand nor machine washing forms part of its care at home.
Marks and creases
Gently blot a fresh spill without rubbing. Have any remaining mark assessed before applying cleaning products, and tell the cleaner what caused it if you can.
Avoid intensive steaming. H&S notes that excess steam can affect a cloth’s surface. Only press or steam the constructed coat in line with its care label and appropriate professional advice.
Before longer storage
We recommend checking the collar, cuffs and pockets for visible soiling, and arranging any necessary cleaning before storing.
