Harvard PhD Robe – TIMELESS | bespoken, Holland & Sherry "Royal Mile"
This robe was developed in exclusive collaboration for Harvard PhD graduates – as a tribute to academic dignity, refined European tailoring, and timeless tradition. Each piece is individually crafted in our Bavarian atelier in Landshut, combining precise German construction with the world-renowned fabrics of Holland & Sherry’s Royal Mile collection. The silhouette follows the classic Harvard doctoral cut – elevated through luxurious materials, traditional details, and personalised finishing.
The Robe – Crimson
• Outer fabric: 100% Super 140’s Merino wool by Holland & Sherry – Royal Mile 318545 – in Harvard Crimson
• Lightweight at 187 g/m², soft to the touch and exceptionally elegant in drape
• Voluminous sleeves and the classic Harvard doctoral silhouette
• Partially lined with pure black silk (chest & back, standard) – extended or full silk lining available
• Right in-seam pocket; a personalised name label sewn into the neckline
The Velvet Bars & Facings
• Three velvet bars on each sleeve, plus the velvet facings, in Holland & Sherry "Velvets" – finest black cotton velvet (1819004, 253 g/m²)
• The same velvet used for Daniel Craig’s dinner jacket at the James Bond premiere of "No Time To Die" – a subtle nod to cinematic elegance
The Signature – Crow’s Feet
• Harvard’s distinctive insignia, elegantly embroidered onto the black velvet facings on the chest
• The colour follows the academic field; the execution marks the type of degree – doubled for earned degrees, tripled for honorary degrees

Cloth by Holland & Sherry, London — outfitter to the great tailoring houses since 1836. Since 1836, Holland & Sherry has supplied the world's finest bespoke tailors from Savile Row; every cloth is cut and dispatched from Peebles in Scotland. The “Royal Mile 1976” collection takes its name from Scotland's most famous street, which links Edinburgh Castle with the Palace of Holyroodhouse — British elegance, taken literally. Woven from luxurious Super 140’s merino wool, exceptionally fine and soft, at a versatile weight of 187 g/m² (280 g/m): a cloth for the whole year, for the courtroom in January as for the graduation ceremony in July. Strictly selected and woven for the highest strength and shape retention, it withstands the daily life of a robe — with the drape that distinguishes made-to-measure clothing. For the lining we use 100% pure silk as standard; on request, you may choose one of 15 nature-based designs from our Fabric & Lining Card.

Every robe is crafted to your precise measurements to ensure an elegant and comfortable fit.

Every figure is reviewed before the cloth is cut. Our atelier in Landshut goes through each measurement, and a doubtful number is queried rather than quietly cut — we measure twice, the cloth is cut once.
Your robe will be individually crafted in Bavaria from the world's finest cloth – tailored not only to your measurements, but to your presence.
Animated guide with spoken instructions and subtitles: on a drawn figure, a red line shows in turn where height, robe length, chest circumference, back width, chest depth, shoulder width, sleeve length and collar size are measured.
